The Unexpected Magic of An Unfinished Basement

Sometimes unfinished is unbelievable, unreal and unmatched!

Hey, I’ll admit that this is a bit of a different video β€” not too serious a message at first glance. But I think you’re going to enjoy it and when you think it over, find it perhaps an interesting lesson. Over the last few days I’ve been in two discussions with a bunch of life-long friends about the good times of our youth.

During the chats, we reminisced about whose houses we had the most fun playing at. A total of five homes in the two groups emerged as the clear winners. So, what was the common denominator at the five residences? What made them special? What did we find so inviting? A great backyard? A swimming pool? Lenient parents? Bountiful snacks and limitless sugar drinks?

Nope. None of the above. Unfinished basements. Seriously. So. Much. Fun. Wrestling on old, crappy furniture. Missing the dartboard and putting a hole in the wall, and nobody really caring because there were already dozens there. Firing nerf footballs in each other’s heads. Or water pistols. Yes, in the house! Shooting pucks β€” the McKelvies. Dents all over the washer and dryer.

Heck, even rollerblading. Oh, and, of course, my sister’s spooky seances. The returning dead didn’t care that the floors were cold β€” they had bigger issues. It’s kind of weird how that’s what we all remembered, most fondly β€” unfinished basements β€” yet today, many people can’t wait to spend tens of thousands of dollars to get rid of them.

I wonder for those with kids, if that’s always a wise move.
