How Do You Find the Right Financial Advisor? Part 1

There are some incredibly good financial advisors out there today—so how do you actually find one?

Very important video. Actually, videos — a rare three parter. Listen to these three. Ignore the others I put out. No, I’m kidding. They’re solid too. Well, most of them. So we started “The Wealthy Barber Podcast” to give listeners Canadian specific — and that’s rare — financial planning education from the top minds in the field.

We wanted, still want, to help people to understand better the world of money and to make wiser financial decisions. But… the podcast has actually had a MAJOR impact in an area that, I’m embarrassed to admit, we hadn’t been trying to at all. What’s happened is this: Our listeners are hearing the top financial advisors/planners we’re hosting and over and over again reaching out to us and saying this, “I love such and such. So smart, and a great communicator.

Plus, they are providing way more services than I’m currently receiving from my advisor. How do I find someone like them?” As interesting, we’ve also had a ton of industry participants listen to our episodes and tell us in essence the following: “Wow, these guests are impressive. They are raising the bar for all of us.”

Those are the exact words I’ve heard several times. “They are raising the bar for all of us.” And you know what? They are. The top people in this industry — the financial advice industry — is now beyond impressive. And I don’t impress easily. In fact, I’ve been an industry critic many times over the years. But the top advisors now, they’re crazy good. Great educational background. Strong credentials. Outstanding emphasis on communication. Fantastic command of the available software. As I said, crazy good. And they’re feeding off each other. Through various industry groups and online platforms, they’re pushing each other, they’re encouraging each other,

they’re stealing from each other — in a good way. This sounds a bit cocky, sorry, but 30 years ago, I think I could have taken anyone out there on in terms of developing well-rounded financial plans. Well, this new group has passed me by. Not me now — I’m old and slipping — me then. They are smarter than I was and just as passionate.

They are top drawer and this sounds corny but I’m very proud of them. They are leading others in the industry up the ladder and everyone is going to win, including most importantly, clients. So, how do you find one of these people? Stay tuned for Parts 2 and 3.
