Do You Pay Yourself First?

We asked people if they follow the Wealthy Barber’s golden rule: pay yourself first. So… do you?

Do you pay yourself first? We’ve spoken about it. Yes. You do? Good. Do you take the money right off the top? Do you put it in, what, a TFSA? Yes. Excellent. Very good move.

Do you pay yourself first? I do, yeah. That didn’t sound very convincing to me.

Do you pay yourself first? I do. Good. So you didn’t just learn it. No, I didn’t just learn it. You actually put it into place. I actually, I put it into place. I don’t see it. It’s gone and it’s out of sight. It’s never really out of mind and you know, it’s gone. You know, it’s there. That’s good. Now that’s good.

Do you pay yourself first? Always. Good. Very good. Wealthy Barber.

Do you pay yourself first? Uh, I do. That did not sound convincing. That sounded like a lie. I pay, I pay my businesses first, which I guess inadvertently pays me second. No, but I think you do because you, you take a portion of all of the money you’ve made and you invest it in your companies instead of investing in the stock market.

So I don’t think you pay yourself.  Do you actually pay yourself first? I do pay myself first. It’d be the height of hypocrisy if I did not pay myself first. Although actually I think I pay myself second. Once again, you tend to come first.
