The Most Expensive Word in the English Language

Watch out—this is the new most expensive word in the English language.

I used to joke that the four most expensive words in the English language are “While we’re at it.” Well, they are out. By far the most expensive word in the English language now, the undisputed champion is… “Self-care.” A young couple will say to me, “It’s impossible to save nowadays.” I respond, “It is tough, yes,

but I did notice in your spending summary that you two did manage to make three nice trips last year and bought a sauna.” “Self-care. You can’t put a price on that, Dave.” Another couple notes, “We just can’t get at those TFSAs.” While I did see in your spending summary that you spend over $1000 a month on Uber Eats and also dine out at least once a week.

“Self-care.” Darn. This is such a great comeback these people are throwing at me. What am I supposed to counter with? “Don’t care about yourself.” I do remind everyone, though, that future self needs a little care too.
